On Saturday, April 13, at noon sharp, the Tulip Route Flevoland officially opened. The celebratory unveiling of Patrick Visser’s artwork, specially designed for the occasion, marked the official beginning. This year the Tulip Route Flevoland offers as many as four different routes. As a special addition in honor of the tenth edition, a Tulip Art Route has also been mapped out this year, which will pass through downtown Dronten.
The only outdoor artwork along the Tulip Art Route was unveiled by Alderman Siert Jan Lap and chairman of Tulip Route Flevoland, Herman Vermeer. The ceremony was framed musically by the specially composed song “Flevoliefde,” performed by an occasional choir led by Cato Fluitsma. Then the Tulip Art Route audio tour was officially launched, by sound artist Remco de Kluizenaar.
Due to the early flowering of the tulips, the organization of the Tulip Route Flevoland decided to open the routes earlier. This past week, many visitors have already been able to enjoy the color and splendor of tulips in the Flevoland countryside during bicycle, hiking, and car tours. Because of this early opening, ticket sales will be curtailed for now through Sunday, April 28 (instead of the original end date of May 5). For the most up-to-date information and possible changes, check the Tulip Route Flevoland website and social media channels.
